HÖRMANN Intralogistics expands automation for Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH in Plößberg

HÖRMANN Intralogistics GmbH is continuing its long-standing collaboration with Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH and is pleased to announce another follow-up order to expand automation at the Plößberg site. In 2010 and 2015, HÖRMANN already built a 5-aisle finished goods high-bay warehouse and a 3-aisle raw materials high-bay warehouse for the customer, which were equipped with the HiLIS warehouse management system and comprehensive system visualization. The level of automation is now being further increased with the use of mobile robots.

Expansion of the ultra-modern warehouse solution

The new project includes the automation of pallet transportation between various picking zones, a new buffer warehouse and the existing high-bay warehouse using twelve automated guided vehicles (AGVs) from robotics pioneer SAFELOG. This will further optimize and accelerate the logistics processes. Particularly noteworthy is the seamless integration of the new systems into the existing infrastructure, which has been running reliably with the HiLIS control system from HÖRMANN for years.

The mobile robot solution increases efficiency by handling transports fully automatically. The mobile robots transport pallets between the various storage areas and connect them to the production stations, significantly speeding up and simplifying internal processes.

Scope of delivery:

  • 12 SAFELOG X1 spin mobile robots (load capacity 1,200 kg)
  • Inductive load management
  • Storage area with 575 storage spaces for EU pallets
  • 75 storage locations for picking processes
  • Connection of the existing Hörmann HRL & adaptation of the existing HiLIS WMS
  • 2 PALOMAT® pallet magazines for automatic empty pallet handling

Flexibility and precision thanks to mobile robots

The SAFELOG "X1 spin" mobile robots handle automated pallet transportation and offer maximum flexibility. With a load capacity of up to 1200 kg and a 360° rotation function, they enable a precise material flow even in tight warehouse environments. A SAFELOG pick-by-light system supports order picking so that work processes are controlled optimally and with minimal errors. The integration of this modern technology once again makes Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH a pioneer in the corrugated cardboard industry, particularly when it comes to the automation of warehouse and logistics processes.

Material flow in detail

If a pallet is to be stored or retrieved in the high-bay warehouse, the mobile robots transport it independently to and from a roller conveyor at a pick-up and removal position. At another position, the vehicles collect empty pallets in a PALOMAT® pallet magazine, which is equipped with light sensors for fill level detection. In addition, further paths lead to goods-in and goods-out stations with spaces for single or mixed pallets. A generously dimensioned buffer store is located in the middle, which the robots use for sorting and sequencing.

The family business as an industry pioneer

The Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH, a family-run company, offers a wide range of products - from attractively printed consumer goods packaging to heavy-duty and transport packaging. HÖRMANN Intralogistics has already been able to maximize storage capacity at the Plößberg site in the past with a new high-bay warehouse and raw materials warehouse, and has successfully expanded this area in a second construction phase. With this ultra-modern and fully automated warehouse, the company has established itself as a pioneer in the corrugated cardboard industry.

With the ongoing automation of intralogistics, Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH continues to focus on a sustainable and efficient production strategy. HÖRMANN Intralogistics is pleased to once again support the family-owned company with its state-of-the-art technology and make a significant contribution to increasing the level of automation.
