HÖRMANN Intralogistics implements fully automated storage system for Hoval heat pumps in Slovakia

[Munich, July 2023] - Hoval is one of the major international players in the manufacture of heating and air conditioning solutions. Due to the high demand for heat pumps, Hoval is expanding production at its site in Slovakia with, among other things, a fully automated storage system consisting of pallet high-bay storage, conveyor technology and AutoStore small parts storage. The plant is implemented by the general contractor HÖRMANN Intralogistics and is to be completed in two construction phases by the end of 2024..

The plant in Istebné, SK follows two current trends: On the one hand, HÖRMANN Intralogistics has already drawn its third order in the trendy heat pump sector, which is experiencing an enormous upswing due to climate change and environmental protection goals. On the other hand, fully automated multi-solution plants are increasingly built, which optimize manual picking processes.

"HÖRMANN Intralogistics has convinced us with its overall package for the future project in Istebné." summarizes Dr. Vadim Tcharnetsky, Head of Indirect Procurement at the Hoval Group. "We are pleased to increase our capacity in the heat pump market with an established and technically experienced partner".

The storage system combines two different systems for large and small parts intralogistics. The centerpiece is a three-aisle pallet high-bay warehouse in silo design with an impressive size of 115 meters in length, 22 meters in width and 40 meters in height. It will include three automatic pallet stacker cranes, each with two double-deep telescopic forks. Another feature of the storage system is the automatic handling of system pallets as carrier pallets for finished goods.

The pallet conveyor technology enables the connection of various functional areas, including goods receiving, high-bay warehouse, central picking of components for production, storage of finished goods and goods issue for shipping. The storage and retrieval capacity of the system will be about 100 pallets per hour.

The complex material flow is supported by various software solutions: The system control and visualization for the stacker cranes; the conveyor technology and the Autostore system receive their orders from the HiLIS Warehouse Management System, which synchronizes the two automated warehouse areas and optimizes material flows for the combined picking workstations.

The entire project management is taken over by HÖRMANN Intralogistics to ensure a smooth implementation. In addition, the company offers an all-round service to ensure long-term operational reliability.

In parallel to the high-bay warehouse, an autostore system is set up. The grid of the intelligent cube storage system will occupy approximately 85 square meters and provide space for 3,000 bins. Fully automated storage and picking will be handled by 3 robots of the "Red Line" series via 3 connected conveyor ports. Furthermore, a service platform with a suspension crane system mounted underneath and an electric chain hoist for a combination workstation in the picking will be installed.

"We are delighted that Hoval has placed its trust in us to implement this challenging project," says Thomas Köhler, sales project manager at HÖRMANN Intralogistics. "Our expertise and many years of experience enable us to develop customized material flow solutions. We are convinced that the new facility will optimize Hoval's warehouse and logistics processes and ensure an efficient and smooth supply chain."
